Meghalaya BJP vice president’s resort raided, minor girls found “locked inside’

Meghalaya Police said they are looking for BJP Meghalaya state unit’s vice president Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu after a case of “immoral trafficking” was registered against him in Tura of West Garo Hill districts.

On Friday, police conducted raids at a resort owned by Marak where at least six minor girls were found “locked inside dingy cabin-like unhygienic rooms.”

The case was filed following raids and at least 73 people have been arrested in the case so far. All have been produced in the court, NDTV reported.

Former militant leader Bernard N Marak is an elected member of the Garo Hill Autonomous District Council.

Meghalaya Police said a woman had lodged a missing complaint for her minor daughter who couldn’t be located for a week. She was traced to Tura by the girl’s relatives.

The minor told court that she was sexually assaulted multiple times over one week by the BJP leader.
