Day after BJP leader’s murder, Muslim man hacked to death in Karnataka

A 24-year-old Muslim youth Muhammed Fazil was chased and brutally hacked to death by a group of assailants in Surathkal on Thursday.

The incident has occurred even as chief minister Basavaraj Bommai is in the district following a BJP youth leader’s murder on Wednesday.

4 unidentified and masked men came in Hyundai car and attacked Fazil near a dress shop, showed a CCTV footage. He was repeatedly hit with a stick and stabbed. Even after he collapsed and a mannequin fell on top of him, one of the men continued to hit him.

Fazil was then admitted to AJ Hospital but succumbed to injuries.

Social Democratic Party of India and other Muslim groups alleged that the Hindu militant group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is behind the killing of Fazil.

Following the murder, section 144 has been imposed by Managaluru Commissioner around four police station premises till July 30.

“It is a highly sensitive area. Therefore, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been clamped in Suratkal and three adjoining police station limits, Mulky, Panambur, Bajpe PS Limits,” said Shashi Kumar, the police chief in Mangaluru.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
