Nitish Kumar ‘reaches out’ to Congress, calls for MLAs’ meeting: Report

Following Bihar CM Nitish Kumar skipped a meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JD(U) Monday called for a meeting of its MLAs in Patna.

The JD(U) and RJD have given signs of cosying up. There have been no attacks on the other by either side.

The call for the meeting followed a phone call Nitish Kumar reportedly had with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

RJD also called for a meeting of its MLAs in Patna. The Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), a constituent of the NDA, is also holding a meeting of its MLAs.

JD(U) sources said all its 45 legislators would meet on Tuesday at the CM’s residence, the Indian Express reports.

The RJD has also directed all its 79 MLAs to be in Patna by Monday night, to be able to attend Tuesday’s meeting called by Tejashwi Yadav.

Though there is no immediate trigger for the JD(U)’s discomfiture with the saffron party, tension has been building up for over two months on issues including the constant denial of JD(U)’s demand for a special category status for Bihar.

Sources close to Nitish Kumar said he is upset over the way he was being attacked by Bihar BJP leaders, NDTV reports.

NDTV report read: “In the last one month alone, Mr Nitish first gave a miss to a meeting of all chief ministers called by the Law Ministry and the Chief Justice of India. He then avoided going to Delhi on an invitation by PM Modi for a farewell dinner for former President Ram Nath Kovind. He sent Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad at a meeting called by Mr Shah to finalise how to leverage hoisting the national flag as part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign. Mr Kumar also skipped the oath ceremony of President Droupadi Murmu and did not participate in a meeting of the government’s think-tank NITI Aayog, where 23 Chief Ministers turned up.”
