MP: Muslim activist who spoke against bulldozer drive in Khargone, booked under NSA, sent to jail

Zaid Pathan, a Muslim activist who was being targeted ever since he stood against the demolition of Muslims’ properties by the authorities in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone, was arrested and booked under the draconian National Security Act (NSA), on Monday morning.

Indore Collector Manish Singh said he arrested Pathan for allegedly disturbing communal harmony, inciting religious sentiments, and posting objectionable posts on social media, as per Collector Office Indore’s Facebook post.

According to Singh, the charges against Pathan were registered at Banganga Police Station in Indore and Khargone Police Station.

Many rights activists who took to Twitter to register their anger over Pathan’s arrest, demanded his immediate release.

Pathan was being targeted ever since he stood against the illegal demolition of properties belonging to Muslims in Khargone, said rights activist Nadeem Khan.

“A prominent social leader, frontline warrior during the Covid times and human rights Activist #ZaidPathan has been arrested under fictitious charges in the draconian NSA on the Independence Day in Madhya Pradesh. This witch hunting must stop,” tweeted Miles2Smile founder and Muslim activist Aasif Mujtaba
