Delhi police deny permission for Munawar Faruqui’s show

Licensing unit of Delhi police on Saturday rejected permission to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui to perform on 28 August in Delhi, ANI reported.

This comes after the Central district police wrote a report to the unit stating that “the show will affect communal harmony in the area”.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad had written to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora seeking the cancellation of stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show on August 28th in Delhi.

Earlier, Faruqui’s shows were cancelled in Bangalore, following threats from Hindu nationalist groups.

The letter says letter Faruqui “mocks Hindu gods in his shows” and “blamed him for causing the Bhagyanagar clashes (in Hyderabad)”.

Last week Faruqui performed in Hyderabad with police protection after suspended BJP leader and MLA Raja Singh threatened to attack the show.
