Popular Front of India faces 2nd round raids in 7 states, hundreds detained

Days after countrywide raids of the NIA and the ED on top leaders of the Popular Front of India (PFI) leading to arrests of over hundred including prominent Muslim figures, a second round of crackdown on the organisation is underway in at least seven states.

The probe agencies are conducting raids across Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.

In the national capital at least 31 people have been detained so far.

The special cell of Delhi Police is conducting raids in several places including Rohini, Nizamuddin, Jamia, Shaheen Bagh, and central Delhi.

In Assam, at least 25 PFI leaders have been arrested. The raids were conducted across five central and lower Assam districts by the state police.

21 PFI workers have been detained from across Madhya Pradesh so far.

In Karnataka, over 40 PFI members were taken into custody by the local police.

The raids were held in Bagalkote, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Ramanagara, Mangaluru, Koppal, Bellari, Kolar, Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Vijayapura districts.

The UP Police Special Task Form (STF) also arrested one person yesterday. Abdul Majeed from Lucknow was charged with draconian UAPA.
