Kerala: 9 killed after tourist bus carrying school students rear ends KSRTC bus

Nine people including students lost their lives, and several others were injured after a tourist bus carrying school students rear-ended a KSRTC bus and then fell into a swamp in Vadakkencherry in Kerala’s Palakkad district on Wednesday night.

At least 50 injured people were rushed to various hospitals for treatment. The condition of several remains critical.

The deceased are Vishnu VK, a school teacher, and students Anjana Ajith, Emmanuel CS, Diya Rajesh, Cris Winterborn Thomas, Elna Jose (students), Anoop (22), son of Omanakuttan, hailing from Valiyode in Kollam, Rohit Raj (24), and Deepu (KSRTC passengers), according to Malayala Manorama.

The deceased include three from the KSRTC bus and five tourist bus passengers.Six men and three women have died.

The police has informed that the casualties in the accident are likely to increase.

The tourist bus was carrying students of Baselios Vidyanikethan Senior Secondary School in Ernakulam and was headed to Ooty. The KSRTC superfast bus was servicing from Kottarakkara to Coimbatore. The tourist bus carried 41 students, five teachers and two employees of the bus. There were 49 passengers in the KSRTC bus.

The presence of rain increased the magnitude of the accident.

Locals and police rushed to the scene and carried out the rescue operations.
