A 32-year-old Muslim man Zaheer Khan was lynched while another person Yusuf Khan (30) was seriously injured after a mob attacked them suspecting them to be robbers in Prayagraj district’s Khuldabad area on Monday.
Both Khans were residents of Kareli area in Prayagraj.
“Monday morning, local residents informed us that two men were lying injured at Baba Market lane in Khuldabad. We rushed the injured persons to hospital. One of the injured persons told us about his identity on the way to hospital,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police, Prayagraj, Santosh Kumar Meena.
Yusuf Khan sustained serious injuries on his legs and hands. “He is undergoing treatment at the hospital and doctors said that his condition is critical,” police said.
Zaheer Khan’s wife Jahira has approached the police station after the cold-blooded murder of her beloved. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons on charges of culpable homicide at Khuldabad police station. Zaheer’s autopsy report stated he died due to ante-mortem injuries.
We have identified four persons and raids are on to trace them.In a video of the incident, the accused are seen thrashing the victims with sticks,” said a police officer.
The kin of Zaheer and Yusuf staged a protest at Khuldabad crossing, demanding strict action against the accused. Circle officer Satyendra Tiwari reached the spot and pacified them. Tiwari assured the family of harsh action against those involved in the incident.
