MP: Bajrang Dal men nab Muslim man, hand him over to police citing ‘love jihad’

A 24-year-old Muslim youth was handed over to the police in Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Friday by activists of Hindu militant group Bajrang Dal who falsely claimed he had booked a hotel suite under a fake identity to spend time with a Hindu woman.

Bajrang Dal local unit convener Tannu Sharma said the man had booked the hotel in Lasudia area with a fake identity card and had lured the woman to his room with the “intention of love jihad,” PTI reported.

“Love jihad” is a term used by the Hindu political and religious right to describe an unproved phenomenon where Muslim men lure Hindu women into marrying them and converting to Islam. Hindu groups claim, without evidence, it is a conspiracy of an organised racket.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Vyas said the man has been taken into custody for further probe.
