Kerala moves Supreme Court over acquittal of RSS men in CPI(M) leader murder case

The Kerala left government has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of the activists of Hindu militant group RSS, in the murder case of CPI(M) leader VV Vishnu.

The government approached the court seeking the quashing of the Kerala High Court verdict acquitting the accused in the case.

The incident had four eyewitnesses, Kerala told the apex court. VIshnu was hacked to death on April 1, 2008 by Hindutva mob in front of the Kaithamukku passport office.

Standing counsel Harshad V Hameed filed the appeal for the state government, Mathrbhumi English reported.

Earlier, the Additional Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram had sentenced 11 of the accused to double life term imprisonment, one life term for one of the accused and a three-year prison sentence for another. Later, the high court acquitted the 13 accused in July saying the evidence produced by the prosecution was insufficient.
