Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has submitted a memorandum to the President seeking the immediate removal of Governor RN Ravi for “obstructing a democratically elected government from serving the people”.
He instigates communal hatred, DMK has alleged.
The memorandum is signed by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members belonging to the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.
The DMK had earlier this month written to “all the like-minded MPs” urging them to back a proposal seeking RN Ravi’s removal.
“Governor RN Ravi has violated the oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law,” the DMK said in the submission to President Droupadi Murmu. The memorandum says Ravi is unfit for constitutional office.
“The Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi is a textbook example of this malady.”
“Some might even consider his statements seditious as his statements attempt to excite disaffection towards the government,” it alleges.
“Tamil Nadu is a paradise where people from different religions, languages and castes live peacefully. The TN Governor Thiru R.N. Ravi has developed an unfortunate propensity to publicly profess his lack of
faith in the secular ideals of this country and frequently engages in divisive rhetoric. This is an embarrassment to our Government which has utmost commitment to the secular ethos of this nation. The Governor has been unabashedly propagating dangerous, divisive, religious rhetoric in public, which is unbecoming of a Governor. His speeches are made with a calculated intent to incite hatred and create
communal unrest among the people. Recently he made a comment that “India is dependent on one religion like the rest of the world”. This statement is an affront to India’s Constitution. India is dependent on its Constitution & laws, not any religion. In the past, the Governor has made similar communal remarks like praising sanatana dharma, communalising the jewel of Tamil literature – the Thirukural & denouncing Dravidian heritage and Tamil pride. These statements have caused deep wounds to the Tamil sentiment and pride.”
