US midterm polls: Ruwa Romman, Palestinian, becomes first Muslim woman elected to Georgia House

Ruwa Romman, 29, is the first Muslim woman elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. Romman who won the American midterm elections, is a Palestinian American.

Romman, a Palestinian–American politician, was born in Jordan and moved to the United States when she was 7.

“Good morning! My name is Ruwa Romman, and I’ve just been elected to become Georgia’s first Muslim woman in the state house and first Palestinian ever elected to any public office in the state,” she tweeted.

On 24 May 24, 2022, Romman won the Democratic primary against Democrat JT Wu for Georgia House District 97. On November 8, 2022, Romman won the general election for Georgia House District 97 against Republican John Chan, making her the first Muslim woman to be elected into the Georgia State House of Representatives.

In her campaign platform, Romman said she would treat gun violence as a public health issue and promised to push for better background checks, studies on preventing gun violence, and legislation to keep guns away from domestic abusers.
