Muslim youth from Assam who was associated with the Campus Front of India, student wing of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) was arrested in Bengaluru.
Amir Hamja is a resident of Assam’s Baksa district, was arrested on Friday night by a team of Assam Police led by a DSP-rank officer.
Assam Police claimed that when the cops searched Hamja’s house, they found several “incriminating documents and posters” include posters against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the RSS and the BJP. Police also said that they found materials in support of the hijab.
Assam police stated,”Absconding CFI (Student wing of PFI) Amir Hamja (Age-27), S/O Ayjuddin Ali R/O DTBM Nabajagaran High School, Bhakuamari, Ananda Bazar, PS-Salbari, Baksa-781318 was apprehended last night by a team of Assam Police led by DSP at Bellundur, Bangalore in SOU PS Case No.02/2022 under 120B/124A/153A/353 IPC r/w Sec 18 of UA(P) Act, 1967.”
Hamja has been given three days transit remand by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bengaluru. He will be produced before CJM court Guwahati on Monday.
Across Assam, at least 40 Muslims have been arrested under draconian UAPA following he Union government ban on PFI.
More than 200 Muslims including the functionaries of Popular Front of India are languishing in jail across India now under stringent charges. Union government said that the Muslim outfit is promoting terrorism while the Muslim group said the ban is arbitrary.
