“This bypoll belongs to Netaji,” says Dimple Yadav

Samajwadi Party candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri constituency Dimple Yadav on Wednesday said that the constituency belongs to the late Mulayam Singh Yadav and she is confident she will win the election with the people’s support.

“This bypoll belongs to you and Netaji. I am confident that you all will support me and I will win the polls,” Dimple, the former MP from Kannauj and wife of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, said addressing women workers at a gathering in Mainpuri.

“The present BJP government only makes tall claims and cheats the people. This election is for the honour of Netaji and I hope you all will respect him. Netaji had always respected everyone and we all will take his thoughts and ideas forward,” PTI agency quoted Dimple as saying.

“We are sad as this by-election comes after the death of Netaji. He is not with us anymore, therefore it is our responsibility to make the party stronger. Residents of Mainpuri were close to him who ensured the development of the area. We are committed to following in his footsteps and the voters here would ensure historic win for the SP candidate as true tribute to Netaji,” former UP chief minister and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav told workers.

SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav’s death necessitated the Manipuri bypoll, to be held on December 5, and Akhilesh has been invoking Mulayam’s legacy to appeal to voters.

The seat was considered Mulayam’s bastion and won by him five times (2019, 2014, 2009, 2004, and 1996.)
