Karnataka: Bajrang Dal members beat Muslim for travelling in bus with Hindu girl, FIR registered

A Muslim youth was allegedly beaten up by a group of BajarangDal workers on Thursday for travelling with a Hindu girl on a bus. The incident happened near Mangaluru’s Nanthur area, an FIR registered by Manglore East Police Station, accessed by Maktoob, said.

Images of 20-year-old Seyad Raseem Ummar in distress, taken to police custody and pleading to people, along with a photo of the Hindu girl were shared by Hindu nationalists on social media.

Ummar said he received death threats from the group. FIR is registered under section 323, 324, 504, 506, 34 of IPC against 4-5 unknown people. “Appropriate action is being taken regarding this incident,” tweeted ADGP Alok Kumar.

Meanwhile, Hindu nationalists cheered for the assault and demanded the boy to be arrested. Anti-Muslim hate crimes in Karnataka have surged in recent years with the rise of Hindu nationalism.
