SDPI Delhi president among two granted bail in PFI ban case

Two Muslim politicians, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Delhi unit president Israr Ali Khan and Mohd Shamoon were granted bail on Saturday by a Delhi court two months after their arrest in connection with Union government ban on Muslim outfit Popular Front of India.

Khan and Shamoon were apprehended as a preventive measure on 27 August ahead of PFI ban and thereafter, on their release from judicial custody on 3 October, they were arrested in the present case on 5 October with the allegations that “in order to take revenge of the ban on PFI, to instigate the emotions of the sympathizers and common people for the purpose of anti-national activities, they raised slogans near their house.”

Khan is 60 years old while Shamoon is 71.

Khan and Shamoon were granted bail by Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Khanagwal, according to a bail order issued on Saturday, 3 December.

Lawyers Abu Bakr Sabbag and Sh. Kartik Murukutla appeared for Khan and Shamoon.

“there is nothing record to show that the accused persons were involved in any such kind of unlawful activity promulgating the agenda of PFI after its ban on 28.09.2022 and notification dated 29.09.2022,” judge observed.
