Conference on ‘political left’ cancelled by IIT Bombay at eleventh hour

A conference on Left politics organised by The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT-Bombay, was cancelled by its director “due to unavoidable circumstances.”

The conference cancellation at eleventh hour by IIT administration received criticism on social media.

“Following the directive from the IT Bombay director that the conference on the ‘Cultures of the Political Left in Modern India’ cannot be held “due to unavoidable circumstances”, we are forced to cancel the event. We apologise profusely for the inconvenience caused to all of you,” read a mail by the organisers.

The two-day conference was organised on December 12 and 13.

It was aimed to bring together scholars engaged in identifying and examining the histories of the cultural practices of the political left in modern India, according to the organisers.
