Kota Police in Karnataka’s Shivamogga Wednesday, registered a case against BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur for her genocidal speech against Muslims, based on a complaint by Shivamogga District Congress Committee President H.S. Sundaresh.
The FIR has registered case under sections 153 (provocation), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence), 154 (unlawful assembly), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 508 (act caused by inducing a person to believe that he will be rendered an object of Divine displeasure) of the Indian Penal Code.
Terror case accused BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Sunday urged Hindus to keep weapons prepared at home to use against enemies. Thakur’s remarks citing “Love Jihad” indicates she is referring to Muslims as enemies.
“Keep weapons at home. Keep them sharp. If veggies can be cut well, so can the enemy’s head,” Thakur is caught saying at the event.
Asked why no FIR was registered earlier, Shivamogga superintendent of police GK Mithun Kumar said to reporters: “To file an FIR, we need the signature of the complainant. The person has to be physically present to sign it. This is why we couldn’t lodge an FIR earlier based on online complaints.”
Earlier, Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale and political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla had filed complaints against the Hindutva politician over her speech.
