Joined Hindu friend’s birthday party; Five Muslims sent to jail in MP

Five Muslim men who were celebrating their Hindu friend’s birthday party at a private residence were arrested and sent to jail for “unlawful assembly” in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.

This comes after over 100 Bajrang Dal men on Saturday crashed their party and assaulted at least five Muslim men on grounds of ‘love jihad’. The Hindu girl who was forced to lodge a complaint against Muslim men, refused to register a police complaint against them. She told the police that she was celebrating her birthday with friends.

Following the assault, the Hindutva men took the Muslim youth to Indore’s MIG Colony police station where the police sent them to jail.

The videos of the incident went viral on Sunday. A viral video showed the assailants attacking Muslim youth while sloganeering “Jai Shri Ram.”

Though MIG station in-charge Ajay Verma told The Quint that they will be released on Sunday, the men had not been released from jail.

After the Hindu woman refused to lodge FIR against Muslim men, Assistant Sub-Inspector Seema Sharma said to media that a group of men and women were celebrating a friend’s birthday – and that the girls involved in the matter “didn’t file any complaint of love jihad”.

Bajrang Dal leader Manoj Yadav told reporters that they barged into the girl’s home because they learned that Muslims and Hindus were celebrating together. “The girl’s family also informed us this,” he said.
