Power has been cut inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus before screening of BBC documetary critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. It was scheduled for screening by JNU Students’ Union despite the restriction imposed by admin.
JNU administration also cuts internet of students union’s office to stop them from streaming the BBC documentary.
Meanwhile, JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh has declared that as a symbol of protest students will be watching the documentary on mobile phones.
At least 50 police personnel in civil dress along with JNU security guards have been deployed to stop the screening. However, hundreds of students have gathered at Student Community Centre to watch the documentary.
This comes after India has blocked the documentary’s airing, saying that even sharing any clips via social media is barred.
The two-part BBC documentary cited a previously classified British foreign ministry report saying that Modi met senior police officers and “ordered them not to intervene” in the attacks on Muslims that followed.
