Top opposition leader Priyanka Gandhi slams Uttar Pradesh government’s move to cover Bhainsakund cremation site in Lucknow with tin sheets.
“Instead of wasting time, resources and energy on hiding the tragedy, please take steps to control the pandemic. Take concrete steps to check the pandemic, this is the call of time,” Priyanka tweeted with a video of workers settings up fencing.
The move comes after social media were flooded with apocalyptic visuals of cremation due to the Covid spike.
India has been recording more than 1000 daily deaths due to Covid. On Tuesday daily caseload surpassed 2,00,000 amidst a shortage of vaccine in several states.
Uttar Pradesh reported 20,500 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, according to government records.
