19 killed due to torrential rains in Uttar Pradesh

Schools were shut in several districts of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday as rain battered various parts of the state. On Monday evening, 19 people were reported dead in the state in rain-related incidents.

Torrential rain and heavy lightning have hit districts of the state since Sunday. At least four people died due to lightning.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officers across the state to regulate relief work and distribute compensation to those affected at the earliest. He directs them to distribute compensation at the earliest to the affected people, said the Chief Minister’s Office in a statement. 

The India Meteorological Department has predicted that isolated heavy rainfall is likely to continue in eastern Uttar Pradesh till September 13. The western region of the state is also likely to get showers till September 17.
