Akhilesh Yadav says his phones being tapped; ‘Yogi himself listens to our phone calls’

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday alleged that his phones and that of his party leaders are been tapped by the BJP government.

“All our phones are being tapped. This includes calls made from the SP office and of people associated with us. The CM himself listens to the recordings in the evening,” the key Opposition leader in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh raised the serious allegation while speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow.

“This is the useless government we have. I should warn you all that if you contact me, then recordings of our conversation will also be listened to,” Yadav said.

His comments came a day after the searches conducted by the Income Tax Department at residences of several SP leaders.

SP national general secretary and spokesperson Rajiv Rai, whose house was searched by the I-T in Mau district Saturday, was present at the press meet.

“Wherever there are elections, the BJP taps phones of Opposition leaders…I am the one who is being targeted,” he went on to say.

Soon after the IT raids, Yadav alleged that the tax department seems to have joined the poll battle.

“I have said this time and again that as elections approach.. all this starts happening. Abhi to Income Tax department aaya hai, Enforcement Directorate aayega, CBI aayega (Now the tax department has come… the Enforcement Directorate will come, CBI will come) but the cycle (the Samajwadi Party’s poll symbol) will not stop… its pace will not stop … the BJP will be wiped out of UP. People of the state won’t be fooled. Why was Rajeev Rai not raided a month ago, why now? Because elections are near?” asks Akhilesh Yadav while lashing out at the ruling BJP.

Yadav went on to say: “The BJP is going the same route as the Congress. Take a look at the old history of the Congress, whenever it had to intimidate someone, it would use these central agencies. Today, the BJP is doing the same.”
