Ashish Mishra surrenders after SC cancels his bail

Ashish Mishra, the son of Union minister Ajay Mishra and the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmers’ killing case on Sunday surrendered at court in Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities have sent him back to the Lakhimpur prison. Jail Superintendent PP Singh said Mishra will be kept in a separate barrack because of security concerns, PTI reported.

Last week, , the Supreme Court had cancelled the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to Ashish Mishra.

Chief Justice NV Ramana’s bench had directed him to surrender within a week.

Mishra had been arrested on October 9 and he walked out of jail on February 15, days after the High Court’s bail order.

A vehicle belonging to Ashish Mishra had run over protesting farmers during a demonstration against the now-repealed three farm laws in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on 3 October.

Eight people, including four farmers and a journalist, had died.

Families of those killed had challenged the HC’s bail order in the Supreme Court.
