Ashok Gehlot out of Congress president race after Rajasthan rebellion: Report

Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot is out of the race for Congress chief after a rebellion by more than 90 MLAs in his state, say sources.

The Gandhis are unhappy with Ashok Gehlot for plotting the rebellion that has embarrassed the grand old party in the middle of Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” NDTV reports.

Gehlot’s refusal to give up the post of Rajasthan Chief Minister has disappointed the Congress leadership, say the sources.

He had earlier agreed to resign as Chief Minister and move on to his national role. But on Sunday, following a meeting of MLAs, they threatened to resign if Sachin Pilot was made Chief Minister.

Congress adopted “one person, one post” rule earlier this year as party of internal reforms.
