Babri verdict amounts to a travesty of justice: CPI(M)

The verdict of the Special CBI Court at Lucknow acquitting all 32 accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case amounts to a travesty of justice, the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said.

“It took 28 long years for this verdict but not justice to be delivered,” left party observed.

CPI(M) further claimed that all the top leaders of the BJP-VHP-RSS who were present at the scene guiding the criminal act have been found to be innocent of the charge of conspiracy to demolish the mosque.

Nearly three decades after the Babri Masjid was razed by Sangh Parivar mob in Uttar Pradesh, all accused including former deputy Prime Minister LK Advani in the Babri Masjid demolition case acquitted by the Special CBI court on Wednesday.

Reading out the 2,000-page order, Judge Judge SK Yadav observed that evidences against the accused are not strong enough and the Babri Mosque demolition incident was not pre-planned.

“The Supreme Court in its Ayodhya judgment on November 8, last year had called the demolition an egregious violation of the law. Now, the Lucknow court has found the main perpetrators of this crime not guilty,” reads the statement of CPI(M) PB.

Party said that this verdict will blemish the image of India as a secular-democratic country governed by the Constitution.

The CBI must immediately appeal against this judgment, urged CPI(M).
