BJP deceiving people of Assam: Congress

Pradyut Bordoloi

Reacting to Home Minister Amit Shah’s “flood free Assam” remarks, senior Assam Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi accused the BJP government in the state of “deceiving the people” of Assam.

“How will people trust the BJP again? The BJP promised so much on solving the floods issue. But they failed to address the issue in the last 5 years. The BJP has been deceiving the people of Assam,” Bordoloi launched an all-out attack on the ruling BJP government ahead of upcoming polls.

Congress leader said the saffron party and its government in Assam in the last 5 years has failed miserably to address the issues of flood and erosion in the state.

BJP is trying to ‘mislead’ the people by “making vague promises” on solving the floods issue ahead of the Assembly elections, Congress accused.

The opposition leader also slammed Amit Shah’s claim of “peace in Assam under the PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.”

“Then why is the Armed Forces Special Powers Act still in effect, and why has the State Government announced Assam as a ‘disturbed area’ for another six months under AFSPA?” Bordoloi asked.

“It was the Assam Congress that brought Assam out of conflict and militancy. It was Amit Shah’s CAA that pushed Assam back into conflict, curfews, and violence. Without peace there can be no progress. Assam wants Congress back,” Assam Congress Chief Ripun Bora had also hit back at Shah.

The Election Commission Friday announced a three-phased assembly polls for Assam from March 27.

Announcing the poll dates, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said: Of the 126 seats in Assam assembly, 47 will go to polls on March 27 in the first phase, 39 constituencies will go to polls on April 1 in the second phase and 40 seats will go to polls in the third and final phase on April 6.
