BJP leader accused of killing farmer, runs Thar jeep over him in Madhya Pradesh

In a shocking incident, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and his associates have been booked for the murder of a farmer and the assault of his daughters in Madhya Pradesh’s Ganeshpura village.

The police said the incident took place when the farmer, Ram Swaroop Dhakad, was going to his field with his wife.

According to the complaint, BJP leader Mahendra Nagar and his aides surrounded Dhakad on the way, attacked him with sticks and rods, and later ran a Thar jeep over his body.

His family alleged that Nagar had been threatening small farmers in the area to sell their land and that Dhakad’s refusal had led to the attack.

According to India Today, Dhakad’s daughters were also assaulted when they rushed to the spot after hearing their parents’ cries for help.

“I went to save my father. They sat on top of me, assaulted me, and even tore my clothes. They also shot at me. My parents were going to the farm when the accused came out and started attacking them. Upon hearing the noise, we went to save them. When my mother tried to intervene, they ran their car over my father,” one of the daughters said.

Ramkumar, the victim’s brother, alleged that the girls were assaulted for almost an hour.

“They tore off the clothes of both the girls,” he said, adding that there were around 20 other people firing gunshots in the air.

“We got scared because of this. They continued the assault for around an hour. The accused then ran a tractor over him and later a car,” he said.

Police officials, meanwhile, said that Dhakad was not allowed to be taken to the hospital for almost an hour. They added that the accused kept his body under guard at gunpoint. When Dhakad was finally taken to the district hospital, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

An FIR has been registered against Mahendra Nagar, three women from his family, and 14 others under murder and other relevant sections.

“Statements from the victim’s family have been recorded, and raids are underway to arrest the accused,” Fatehgarh Station House Officer Jayanarayan Sharma said.

Residents of Ganeshpura said Mahendra Nagar had long intimidated small farmers, forcing around 25 of them to sell their land at low prices and leave the village.
