BJP men throw eggs at Siddaramaiah’s car after he criticised Savarkar

Hindutva activists threw eggs at the vehicle of former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah in Madikeri when he was visiting flood-affected areas on Thursday.

The right-wing members also tried to gherao Karnataka Leader of Opposition’s car with Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s photo.

They showed black flags to him and raised slogans ‘Go back Siddaramaiah’.

It all started after a row erupted over a poster of Hindu militant leader Vinayak Damodar Savarkar put up at Ameer Ahmed circle on Independence Day. Congress leader Siddaramaiah blamed the BJP for the incident and said, “This is a planned attempt by the BJP. They put a Savarkar photo and look where they chose to put it up. They did it, particularly in a Muslim area and then they refused to put a poster of Tippu Sultan there.”

Later, Congress workers protested demanding the arrest of those who threw eggs at the former chief minister. Kodagu district superintendent of police Captain M A Aiyappa visited the spot and assured the Congress protesters of action.
