In a viral video, a Bharatiya Janata Party worker is seen destroying a Portuguese flag thinking it belonged to the Social Democratic Party of India, political wing of banned Muslim group PFI.
The Portuguese flag was hung up by football fans around town, in light of the FIFA World Cup 2022 held in Qatar. The incident took place at Panoor Vaidyar Peedika in Kannur district.
The saffron party member was identified as Deepak Elankadu.
A case was registered against Deepak by the police for destroying public property.
The footage, which already went viral on social media, shows an angry Hindutva man taking down the Portuguese flag, ripping it away from its poles and then continuously tearing it to shreds.
