Budget 2023: In ‘highest-ever outlay’, FM says Rs 2.40 lakh crore allocated for Railways

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting Union Budget 2023-24 in Parliament, said that Rs 2.40 lakh crore have been allocated for Indian Railways. This was the “highest-ever outlay”, nine times the outlay made in 2013-14, according to Nirmala Sitharaman.

“This is the highest capital outlay for railways and is 9x over Fy2014,” the FM said.

She also announced Rs 75,000 crpre for 100 “critical transport infrastructure projects”, which is likely to help the railways too, specifically with its freight business.

The Finance Minister will lay out a detailed description of budget estimates, annual statements, revenue, and allocations for the Indian Railways.

Railways has been a priority of almost all governments so far. In 2016, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government decided not to present a separate Railway budget.
