Hours after a BJP leader in Assam filed a police complaint against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and MP Badruddin Ajmal for allegedly receiving funds from foreign agencies having terror links, Ajmal told reporters that complaint against him is a move to politically pressure him so that he leaves politics or he does not side with any other party.
“This allegation has come within two days after I decided to jointly fight with Congress in the Bodoland territorial council polls. If someone has some allegations one can move Union Ministry of Home ministry,” Ajmal told Economic Times.
Guwahati CP M S Gupta told ANI news agency that he received a complaint from Satya Ranjan Bohra, alleging that Ajmal Foundation, run by Badruddin Ajmal, collected funds from abroad and utilised them in a suspicious manner.
A case registered at Dispur police station, Gupta said.
BJP leader Borah’s complaint is based on allegations levelled against Ajmal Foundation by an NGO called Legal Rights Observatory (LRO). The NGO alleged that several Turkey and UK-based organizations have given Rs 69.55 crore to Ajmal Foundation for education.
The FIR is lodged under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 124A (sedition), and 420 (cheating) of IPC with Section 13 of Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
Ajmal Foundation is a Public Charitable Trust, registered under Charitable Trust Act, 1882, established in the year 2005, head office located in the district of Hojai, Assam.
The organization has been working in the fields of Modern Education, Skill Development and Employment Generation, Women Empowerment, Poverty Alleviation, Relief and Rehabilitation and Environment and Health.
According to its official website, it has been running as many as 25 educational institutions all over Assam with 100 percent successful results and implementing various schemes and projects in different locations of the country for development of the weaker sections of the society.
