Caught without mask: Mumbai collects Rs 9.53 crore in fine

COVID19 protocols makes mask mandatory

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collected approximately ₹9.53 crore in fine for over 4 lakh violations of face mask norms between April 20 to November 26 this year, the civic body said.

Wearing face masks in public places, apart from other measures such as following social distancing, is part of the guidelines by the authorities to control the spread of coronavirus.

According to the officials, the numbers of violations increased drastically as many were out during festivals including Diwali.

The fine for not wearing a mask in public place is Rs 200.

Mumbai reported 1,063 new COVID-19 cases, 880 recoveries/discharges and 17 deaths on Saturday.

The total cases in the city rose to 2,81,874 including 2,55,345 recoveries/discharges and 10,773 deaths. Active cases stand at 12,753. The recovery rate of Mumbai District is 91 per cent.
