Congress MP Karti Chidambaram’s home and offices were searched Tuesday by the Central Bureau of Investigation over allegations of bribery.
The CBI has registered a fresh case against Karti Chidambaram, accusing him of receiving Rs 50 lakh as bribe to facilitate the visa of 250 Chinese nationals for a power project in Punjab between 2010-14.
Seven premises linked to Karti Chidambaram and his associates were searched across Chennai, Mumbai, Odisha, and Delhi.
“I have lost count, how many times has it been? Must be a record,” Karti Chidambaram -the son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram- tweeted shortly after news of the raids emerged.
Karti is being probed in cases registered by the CBI, including the case lodged in 2017 over irregularities in a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during P Chidambaram’s tenure as the Union Finance Minister.
