Church torched by Hindutva group in MP, “Ram” written on wall inside

A church in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district has been vandalised and torched allegedly by Hindutva group.

The word “Ram” found inscribed on the church wall. The religious texts and other items, including furniture, were destroyed in the fire.

The incident came to light on Sunday when some local Christians went to the church located in Chaukipura area to offer prayers, PTI reported on Monday, citing the police.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons under Section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the Indian Penal Code, Itarsi Sub Divisional Officer of Police Mahendra Singh Chauhan told the news agency.

The assailants entered the church by removing a window net and set fire inside, he said.

The church, located in Sukhtawa village of Kesala block, was connected to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, locals said to NDTV.
