A Muslim youth was fatally stabbed to death in Haryana’s Panipat on Saturday evening following an altercation over wearing a skullcap. 24-year-old Firdaus Alam, also known as Asjad Babu, was stabbed around 8:30 PM on May 24 in the Sukh Ram Colony area near Sanoli Chowk, according to the First Information Report (FIR).
Speaking to Maktoob, Firdaus Alam’s brother, Asad Raza, said his younger brother got married only six months ago. “He hadn’t harmed anyone, yet he was killed. What kind of justice is this? Can people be killed so easily on the streets?” Raza asked.
The FIR No. 0288/2025, registered at Industrial Sector 29 police station, states that the accused, identified as Narendra alias “Susu Lala”, taunted Firdaus Alam for wearing a skullcap, a visible symbol of Muslim identity.
According to the complaint by Asad Raza, Alam and his friends were sitting near a playground when the accused approached them and began verbally abusing them. The situation deteriorated rapidly after the accused allegedly mocked Alam for wearing a skullcap, using derogatory language.
When confronted, the accused reportedly attacked one of the men with a knife, inflicting serious injuries.
Haryana Police have registered the case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which pertains to culpable homicide. According to the Muslim Mirror, the accused was apprehended and handed over to the police.
Raza stated that the accused had a prior history of aggressive behaviour and had previously threatened his brother.
Alam and Raza are originally from Kairi Birpur village in Kochadhaman block of Bihar’s Kishanganj district. Alam worked as a tailor in Panipat.
