The findings of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)’s second national serosurvey revealed that nearly seven per cent of India’s population aged ten and above was exposed to coronavirus, amounting to an estimated 74.3 million infections by August, with the seroprevalence being highest in urban slum areas followed by urban non-slum and rural areas.

The overall seroprevalence of below 10 per cent in India indicates that a large proportion of the population remains susceptible to novel coronavirus infection, the survey findings stated.

With 44,489 new cases, there are over 9.2 million coronavirus infections in the country. As many as 524 deaths were reported in the 24 hours ending Thursday morning, taking the toll to 1,35,223.
