Javaid Ahmad Hakak, his wife Sofiya and their three-year-old daughter Hafsa were burned alive on Friday night in Srinagar district when their house was gutted in a fire in the old city’s Khanyar area.

The fire broke out and completely gutted the residential house of Javaid at Sheshgari Mohalla Khanyar, even as Sadia Javaid, their seven-year-old daughter escaped miraculously.

Neighbors said they repeatedly contacted Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) but no one responded.

‘The police have registered a case and the probe is ongoing,’ the Superintendent of Police (SP) North, Al-Tahir Gilani said.

Gilani said that apparently the cause of fire seems to be due to short circuits. However, SP said that the real cause of the fire would be known after completion of investigations.

Thousands participated in their last rite in Dastgeer Sahab (RA) Shrine, the place where funerals of the trio were held on Monday.
