Covaxin approved for 12-18 years age group

Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Saturday granted emergency use authorisation to Covaxin for 12-18 years age group with certain conditions.

The vaccine is not for children below 12 years.

Covaxin is only the second Covid-19 vaccine cleared for use for children in India after Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D.

Addressing the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that booster doses for frontline workers and vaccination for children will be started from January this year, He also asked people not to panic but appealed to everyone to remain vigilant amid the spread of the Omicron variant.

“In many countries of the world number of infects are increasing due to the new variant of COVID. I appeal to all, not to panic but remain vigilant, and use masks and sanitize hands regularly,” he said.
