COVID-19: India reports 4,858 new cases, 18 deaths in 24 hours

India on Monday reported 4,858 new coronavirus infections, taking country’s COVID-19 tally to 4,45,39,046. The death count has climbed to 5,28,355 with 18 deaths, according to the latest health ministry data.

The 18 deaths include eight deaths reconciled by Kerala.

The active cases comprise 0.11 per cent of the total cases, while the India’s COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.71 per cent.

An increase of 105 cases has been recorded in the active coronavirus caseload in a span of 24 hours, the health ministry said.

India’s coronavirus tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.
It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 216.70 crore.
