COVID in India: cases increase, 35% higher than a day earlier

On Saturday morning, India reported 22,775 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally since the pandemic began in 2020 to 3,48,61,579.

This is 35% higher than Friday’s count of 16,764 cases, data from the health ministry showed.

India’s active caseload rose to 1,04,781 while recovery rate currently is 98.32%.

The toll rose to 4,81,486 after 406 deaths were reported over the last 24 hours.

India’s Omicron tally on Saturday reached 1,431, with Maharashtra recording the highest cases at 454, followed by Delhi at 351, Tamil Nadu 118, Gujarat 115 and Kerala 109.

Meanwhile, India on Saturday opened the registration for covid-19 vaccines for children between the age of 15 to 18 years on the CoWin portal. “If the children are safe, then the future of the country is safe. I request the family members to register the eligible children for vaccination, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.
