The Telangana State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) has announced a bandh across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on June 20 as a mark of protest against the ongoing ‘Operation Kagar’, which they claim has led to the extrajudicial killings of senior Maoist leaders and cadres.
In a press statement released to the media, Jagan, the spokesperson for the party’s Telangana committee, condemned the killings of senior leaders Chalam alias Gautham, Mailarapu Adellu alias Bhaskar, and seven others in Chhattisgarh.
He accused the Union government of intensifying repression under the garb of a counterinsurgency operation.
According to the statement, “the BJP government at the Centre that vowed to eliminate Naxalism by March 2026 had killed as many as 550 Maoists since January 2024 as part of ‘Operation Kagar.”
The party alleges that a massive deployment of security personnel took place in the National Park region in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh from June 3 to 9.
Jagan claimed that the forces had launched an extensive area domination operation, during which top leader TLNS Chalam alias Gautham was separated from his group while retreating on the night of June 4. He was subsequently surrounded and killed in combat the following morning.
Further, the spokesperson alleged that Mailarapu Adellu alias Bhaskar was gunned down on June 6 in another encounter with the forces.
He also stated that on June 6 and 7, National Park area committee member Raini, who was reportedly unwell, was captured, subjected to torture, and killed at Irupagutta village.
Among the other individuals the party claims were killed in a similar manner are Komaram Bheem-Mancherial division cadre Santhosh (Bhaskar’s guard), Rajani, Lalsu, and local resident Kudiam Mahesh from Irupagutta.
Describing the crackdown as “massive repression unleashed by the Centre,” Jagan added, “the bandh has been called to condemn the brutal killing of Maoist leaders, including Chalam alias Sudhakar and Mailarapu Adellu alias Bhaskar and seven others, in Chhattisgarh as part of ‘massive repression’ ‘unleashed by the Centre’ in the name of Operation Kagar.”
