CPI(M) local leader hacked to death by BJP, RSS men in Kerala

A local CPI(M) leader was hacked to death Sunday night allegedly by a group belong to Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Kerala’s Palakkad district.

The deceased, Kunnangadu resident Shajahan was a local committee member of the CPI(M).

The incident happened at around 9.30 PM near the leader’s house.

Local Left leaders said he was out arranging decorations for the Independence Day celebrations Monday.

The ruling left party alleged that the “BJP and RSS were behind the murder”.

“CPI(M) strongly condemns the brutal murder of Com. Shahjahan, member of the CPI(M) Marutha Road Local Committee, on the eve of the Independence Day by the RSS criminals. Red Salute Comrade Shahjahan. Your struggle will continue,” read a tweet by CPI(M) Kerala state committee.

“We are recording statements of eyewitnesses. He was immediately taken to the hospital but could not be saved,” a senior police official told PTI.

According to FIR, eight men who were active cadres of Hindu nationalist parties BJP and RSS are the accused. Three men were arrested so far.

A. Prabhakaran, MLA, said that Shajahan had faced threat to his life.
