Deadline to link Aadhaar with voter ID extended to 31 March 2024

The Union government has extended the deadline for linking the Aadhaar number with voter ID to 31 March 2024 from 01 April 2023.

The Ministry of Law and Justice, in a notification dated March 21, 2023, said: “The Central Government hereby makes the following amendment in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), number S.O.2893(E), dated 17th June 2022, namely: — In the said notification, for the words and figures, “the 1st April 2023” for the words and figures, “the 31st March 2024” shall be substituted.”

The notification is issued by Diwakar Singh, Joint Secretary and Legislative Counsel.

Meanwhile, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to extend the deadline by six months for linking PAN card with Aadhaar and remove the Rs 1000 fee.

The last day to link PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, 2023.

According to the income tax department, failure to do so will lead to the unlinked PAN becoming inoperative.

Until 12 December, the Election Commission had collected 54.32 crore Aadhaar numbers, though the process of linking the Aadhaar with Voter IDs had not started yet, the poll panel said in a Right to Information (RTI) reply to The Indian Express on 15 December 2022.
