Delhi AIIMS nurses go on indefinite strike, demand revoke suspension of union president

Following the suspension of All India Institute of Medical Science nursing officer, Harish kajla on Saturday for leading the protest over staff shortage, the nurses union on Tuesday has announced indefinite strike.

Revoking the suspension of Harish Kalia, prioritising safety & resolving working time related issues for nurses are some major demands of the strike.

Harish kalia, on Saturday had headed a strike demanding resolution on staff shortage and safety issues for nurses, which resulted in the cancellation of 50 planned surgeries. The AIIMS administration responded by suspending Harish Kalia.

However, the suspension of Kalia resulted in uproar from the nursing community on Tuesday as they announced an indefinite strike until their demands are met.

“In response to your unilateral decision to suspend Harish Kajla, president of AIIMS Nurses Union, without even citing proper reasons, the union has called an emergency executive meeting and decided to go on indefinite strike from 8 a.m, read the union’s letter to AIIMS director Randeep Guleria.

The union has warned the institution that if the demands aren’t met the protest would intensify. With a vast section of nurses on strike, the Delhi AIIMS struggles to handle its patients.
