Delhi Police stops screening of AAP’s documentary ‘Unbreakable’; ‘dictatorship,’ says Arvind Kejriwal

The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) media screening of the documentary ‘Unbreakable’ was stopped by Delhi Police on Saturday morning, citing the absence of permission to hold the event.

The screening of the documentary, which primarily focuses on the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, was scheduled to be held at Pyare Lal Bhawan at 11:30 am, with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal as the chief guest.

Arvind Kejriwal took to X, alleging the screening was stopped because the BJP was “afraid of the film.”

“Why? Why does the BJP want to stop this film? What is there in this film that the BJP is scared of? This film exposes all the secrets behind the scenes when AAP leaders were wrongly arrested. It exposes the illegal and unconstitutional actions of the BJP government.”

In an official statement, Delhi Police declared that political parties have to apply for permission through a single-window system at the DEO office during elections.

“For the said event, no such permission was taken and hence it would have been a violation of guidelines. We urge all parties to follow the election rules and regulations at this time,” reads the statement.

“Further, it is clarified that Delhi Police can neither grant nor reject such permission at this time as all permissions for political activity are granted through a single-window system in the concerned DEO office,” they added.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal clarified that no permission was required for a private screening:

“This was a private and not a public screening, but a lot of police force was pressed to stop the screening.”

“Under no law is it allowed that the police can stop the screening of a film in this manner. It was not an election campaign, there was no election flag, election speech, or messages either supporting or opposing any political party, or any other election-related message in it. It was a private screening of the film, so why is the BJP so scared of this film? We strongly condemn that this film was stopped in this manner, and we hope that we will be permitted to show this film,” he added.

“This is goondagardi (hooliganism), dictatorship,” he accused.

Sharing the trailer of the documentary on his X account, Kejriwal noted, “You will understand why BJP wants to stop this film.”

Delhi is heading into the election heat as it is set to go to the polls on February 5, with results to be announced on February 10.
