During the hearing on petitions seeking registration of FIRs and independent inquiry for northeast Delhi violence, Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves said to the Delhi High Court that delay caused in taking up these matters for arguments is emboldening the police to make illegal arrests, Live Law reported.

Colin Gonsalves informed High Court that as this matter gets delayed, police gets emboldened.

“So many illegal arrests and other terrible things are happening,” he argued before the Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan.

Gonsalves demanded the transfer of investigation to some other agency both in the northeast Delhi case and in the Jamia violence case.

“Due to the illegal arrests that have been taking place, we want to seek transfer of investigation to an independent agency both in this matter and the matter pertaining to Jamia violence,” lawyer said.

According to Live Law, the Court has been adjourning these matters for the reason that it wants to complete the hearing on Jamia violence matters first.

Court said that it first wants to finish the other batch matters concerning Jamia violence and it will hear matters pertaining to Delhi riots after that.

The court reiterated that it will hear matters regarding Delhi riots after completing the hearing on Jamia matters. The court then adjourned the matters pertaining to Delhi riots till October 01.
