A poster containing Islamophobic and derogatory remarks appeared on the entrance notice board of the Faculty of Agriculture at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) in West Bengal’s Nadia, one of the prestigious agricultural educational institutions in India.
The notice read: “Dogs and Muslims not allowed. All eyes on Pahalgam. Terrorism means Islam.”
Maktoob independently verified this and accessed the photo.
University students and staff couldn’t identify who pasted the poster, as it bears no name.
The poster appeared as part of a widespread Islamophobic campaign in several corners of the country following a deadly militant attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. The dead include many tourists from across India, two foreigners, and one local youth.
India has put the responsibility on Pakistan, as an armed group in Kashmir, The Resistance Front (TRF), claimed responsibility for the attack.
The situation is tense between the two countries now.
“This is really unfortunate and unacceptable, as a notice board like this appeared on a campus known for its outstanding academic excellence,” an alumnus told Maktoob.
