Senior BJP leader from West Bengal, Dilip Ghosh, is under fire after a video surfaced showing him threatening a woman protester on Friday in Ward 6, Kharagpur, where he had arrived to inaugurate a newly constructed road.
In the viral video, Dilip Ghosh was heard saying, “Don’t scream. I will choke you,” as he threatened the protesters.
The situation intensified when local women confronted Dilip Ghosh, challenging his absence during his tenure as a Member of Parliament.
One woman pointed out that the road was constructed by Trinamool Congress councillor Pradip Sarkar, saying, “Where were you all this time? We never saw you as an MP. Now that our councillor has built the road, you show up?” as quoted by NDTV.
Ghosh aggressively reacted to this and branded the protesters as Trinamool supporters. “I have built it with my money, not your father’s money. Go and ask Pradip Sarkar about it.”
The women continued to confront him, leading to a heated argument with the BJP leader. “Why bring up our father? You were an MP, can you talk like this?” she asked.
Upon hearing this, Ghosh reacted aggressively, saying, “I will bring up your fourteen generations.”
“Don’t scream. I will choke you. I had given money for this from my MPLAD fund when I was a parliamentarian,” he threatened the protesters and called them “Trinamool’s dogs.”
The argument between the BJP leader and the women sparked tension in the area, prompting a police team from the nearby Kharagpur Town police station to reach the spot.
As the woman allegedly attempted to hit his vehicle, Dilip Ghosh was forced to leave under police protection.
Later, speaking to reporters, Ghosh claimed that Trinamool had orchestrated the protest. “These are opportunists barking for Rs 500 (Lakshmir Bhandar – a government scheme for women). Those who bark, Dilip Ghosh will bring up their father.”
Ghosh took to X, stating that the road was built at a cost of Rs 2.6 lakh from the MP fund and would improve the living conditions of residents in the low-lying areas.
“Although the municipality was responsible for this work, they failed to fulfill their duty. Subsequently, we took the initiative to construct the road using the MP fund,” he said.
He alleged, “Today, during the inauguration, the local TMC people created a ruckus. Mamata Banerjee’s party neither works nor solves people’s problems—they only engage in chaos, violence, and deception, misleading the public with false claims.”
Condemning the action, Pradip Sarkar, the Trinamool councillor and a former MLA from Kharagpur, said, “He went there and lost his temper. He disrespected the women by bringing up their fathers. I was not there, but he even insulted my father. He called the women 500-rupee workers. He should apologise. Otherwise, wherever he goes in Kharagpur, there will be protests. Such language is unbecoming of a former MP.”
TMC workers arrived at Dilip Ghosh’s residence to protest against his statements but were forced to leave after resistance from BJP workers and heavy sloganeering.
