ED conducts raids on NewsClick office, editors’ residences

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted raids at the office of online news portal Newsclick in Delhi’s Saidulajab in connection with an alleged money laundering case pertaining to foreign funding.

Raids were also conducted at the residences of the website’s Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkayastha and Editor Pranjal.

“There’s a search going on since morning, also at some of our houses. We are cooperating and will continue to cooperate. They are searching through the documents and have given us a notice,” Editor Pranjal said.

Popular anchor Abhisar Sharma, who hosts programs for NewsClick, also confirmed the raid on Twitter.

“Subjugate, Suppress and Stifle is the only mantra of Modi Government as proved by ED raids on Newsclick today,” senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted.

Founded in 2009, NewsClick has, over the years, become one of India’s most consistent chroniclers of diverse people’s movements and struggles.

NewsClick is owned by PPK NEWSCLICK Studio Private Limited. NewsClick was founded by Prabir Purkayastha, who is also the Editor-in-Chief of the organisation.

More details are awaited.
